We’ve been on a decent cold stretch for a couple weeks now. Other area lakes and even some lakes South of us have safe ice now which is taking some of the presure off from Lake Mitchell and Cadillac.
Crappie fishing has picked up in the last week on the west side of Lake Mitchell. Mainly outside of Small Cove looking for healthy green weeds that are still putting off good amounts of oxygen. Look in areas from 8-12′ of water. Small minnows have been the most popular bait but waxworms and soft plastics have been working as well. On Lake Cadillac a mix of Crappie and Perch are being taken but it can be pretty hit or miss. Off from Kenwood Park and across from the football field have been the best spots.
Walleye fishing has slowed down, but they’re still getting a few in the evenings. Usually just after 5 pm when the sun starts getting lower in the horizon is when the bites starts picking up. The most successful anglers are ususally using Jigging Rapala’s or Swedish Pimples tipped with a minnow. Tip-ups with Blues or small Sucker minnows have also been tricking a few. Pike fishing has been good with plenty of flags, but you’ll have to sort through the small hammer handles.
