This has been the first really cold week this winter. Good for ice conditions, but it really cuts down on the enthusiasm for being outside. Both lakes have around a foot of ice and some are even driving trucks out there now. For those who braved the bitterness this past weekend some were rewarded with enough for a fish dinner and some were not. Out from Small Cove on Lake Mitchell mixed bags of Crappie and Sunfish with the occasional Perch were being caught. Enough activity to keep you occuppied but you had to sort through the small ones. Kenwood Park on Lake Cadillac produced some really niced sized Crappies from 11-14″ but the numbers were not there like on Mitchell.
Walleye and Pike fishing continues to be good. Jigging and Tip-ups have both been working for the Walleye. Target the outside weed edges and drop offs around the lakes in 10-15 feet of water. Pike have been doing good on tip-ups as well and we even had a few speared this week.
Come on in and get signed up for the NASF Ice Fishing Contest thats on Saturday February 2nd. Adults $10.00, Children under 17 just $5. It’s a fun time every year and you can still win prizes even if you don’t catch a fish.
